For ophthalmological emergencies we will attend you 24 hours, 365 days a year at our Institut Oftalmologia - Oftalis or at the Clinica Girona where we can also perform emergency surgical interventions.

  • Emergency Service (24h) Clinica Girona where you will be attended by a doctor who will make a first assessment. If the emergency occurs during business hours, you can also go to the Institut Oftalmologia - Oftalis.
  • At the Institut Oftalmologia - Oftalis you can be urgently attended during the working hours of the center:
    • Monday to Friday: 08:00 to 21:00
    • Saturday: 09:00 to 13:00

It is recommended to call in advance: +34 972412413
  • In case of emergency during the weekend, the Institut Oftalmologia - Oftalis will be open on Saturday morning. Outside the opening hours referred to above, you will have to go to emergency centre Clinica Girona where you will be attended by a general practitioner who will evaluate if it is necessary or not to locate the ophthalmologist on duty.

What symptoms are indicative for an ophthalmologic emergency service?

We should visit the emergency ophthalmologist immediately if:
  • Sudden loss of vision
  • Red or swollen eye
  • Eye pain
  • Traumatism in the eye

In the following cases, we can expect to see a specialist ophthalmologist without having to go to an ophthalmological emergency.

With a margin of 1 to 3 days:
  • Infectious or allergic conjunctivitis
  • The sight of floating flies or flashes
  • Intermittent double or blurred vision
  • Photophobia

We have up to 3 weeks to visit the ophthalmologist:

  • Sensation of lameness, itching, tearing
  • Progressive fall of the eyelid
  • Nodules or tumors in the eyelid
  • Owl eyes

Frequently visiting an emergency ophthalmlogist can often be used to solve the problem successfully, or to make  quick diagnosis in time to determine the appropriate treatment or emergency intervention if necessary.
